1. Start Daily Bible Reading Plan:
The Bible shows us God’s character and provides us God’s revelation of Himself to His people. Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32 NIV)
I recommend installing on your phone the “YouVersion Bible App“ and choose a 1yr new testament reading plan (5 min/day). I personally like the M’Cheynne 1 yr reading plan (15 min/day covers old testament(1X) and new testament (2x)). I normally use the audio option and listen with my earbuds. I prefer the NASB 1995 version.
My prayer for you is that, although Bible reading/listening may start out as a discipline, it will evolve into loving God’s word. As you read or listen to God’s word, ask your heavenly Father, in Jesus name, to give you understanding & personal application.
2. Start Praying Daily because Jesus did! :
‘In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there. (Mark 1:35) (If Jesus, God manifested in the flesh(1Timothy 3:16), needed to pray daily, how much more do we!)
During the days of Jesus’ earthly life, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence. (Hebrews 5:7)(Jesus prayed with a lot of passion)
“Pray, then, in this way: Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. (Jesus is starting the prayer with worship to God the Father) Your Kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. (note that here on earth God’s will does not happen automatically & we must pray for it) Give us this day our daily bread. (Pray for food or a job to buy food with) And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. (We must forgive others in order to be forgiven by God. Jesus didn’t need to ask forgiveness for Himself, because he never sinned. He is telling us to ask daily for forgiveness of sins we know of or don’t know of. Ask God to reveal hidden unforgiveness also) And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.(Luke 4:5-8), reveals Christ was tempted to worship the Devil to gain control of the Earth but why? Because Adam gave it to the Devil in the garden of Eden. It wouldn’t have actually been a temptation for Christ, if the Devil couldn’t really have given it to Him. Adam’s sin is why bad things happen on earth! Don’t blame God) For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen. For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions. (Matthew 6:9-15)(The reason Jesus mentions forgiving others twice, is because of it’s importance. Without forgiving others God cannot forgive us, and that means hell – I recommend asking God to reveal anyone you might need to forgive. If a person comes to your mind forgive them. It could be recent or from the past. When you really forgive, you will feel a release in your heart. You feel lighter.)
In Exodus chapter 16 God fed the Israelites with manna from heaven (little wafers that tasted like honey) and tells Moses to have the Israelites gather manna fresh each morning or it will spoil. Jesus said he was the true manna(bread) from heaven in John 6:32-40. The application for us, is that God wants us to have a “fresh encounter” with Lord Jesus Christ every morning, not just on Sundays.
Start with 5 minutes each morning, and work up as time permits (Matthew 26:39-41). Ask God for help through out the day.
Under Bible Lessons prayer is explored more in depth.
I also like praying along with Morning Glory! Don’t forget to trample on the enemy(depression, addictions, darkness…etc.(Luke 10:19) by calling the Fire of the Holy Ghost to burn up your adversaries on all sides! (Psalm 97:3)(2Cor. 10:4)
3. Start going to church! :
The best way to find a good church where good character is emphasized & miracles happen, is to ask around. I recommend a nondenominational church.
Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have made a habit, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25) (God doesn’t want us doing life alone. We are better together. We learn from each other. We help each other)(Colossians 2:2-3)
4. Start volunteering at church! :
It’s a good way to meet people and serve God.
For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. (Ephesians 2:10)
God loves us and has a wonderful plan for our lives & part of that plan is volunteering. I recommend praying about where God would have you serve Him. Could be ushering, nursing home ministry or grocery give away, or evangelism team….etc.. God has a place for you!
5. Start watching the 700 club! :
God does miracles regularly through the staff at the 700 club. There is divine healing & freedom from addictions & healing of the heart on a regular basis. I normally watch it on YouTube. I actually normally just listen to it while I’m exercising.
‘ He sends forth His word and heals them and rescues them from the pit and destruction. (Psalm 107:20) (When the hosts pray, King Jesus starts speaking thru them and releasing His power to heal, break addictions, heal broken hearts, etc…)
Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What does’ thou? (Ecclesiastes 8:4) (King Jesus releases His power through prophetic words. It is His power being released and that is why the healings happen.)
